The Waratahs have announced that Wallabies scrum-half Jake Gordon has signed a two-year extension to remain with the Sydney-based outfit until the end of the 2025 Super Rugby season.

The 29-year-old is the latest player who has recommitted to the Sydneysiders and joins Jed Holloway, Angus Bell and Charlie Gamble who all signed new deals during the past month.

Consistent performer

He is the Waratahs captain since 2021 and has been one of their most consistent performers at Super Rugby level over the past two campaigns as he was named their best back for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Gordon, who has made 20 appearances for the Wallabies since making his Test debut against Italy in 2018, is happy to recommit to the Waratahs.

“I’m really excited to be re-signing with the Waratahs and Australian Rugby for another two years,” he told the Waratahs’ official website.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to play for this team for a number of years now, and I believe that we have a group of players and coaches who are all committed to building something special here in New South Wales.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for Australian Rugby and something that I’m desperate to continue to be a part of.

“We’ve got a World Cup this year and a home British Irish Lions tour in 2025, so there’s no place I’d rather be to try and push my claims to wear Wallaby gold.”

Waratahs head coach Darren Coleman is delighted that Gordon has decided to sign a new deal with the Sydneysiders.

“Jake is a fantastic player, and an even better person,” he said.

“He’s a natural leader and has done an exceptional job as our captain.

“We’re thrilled that he’s chosen to remain with the Waratahs for the next two years.”

Experienced player

Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones said: “Jake is an experienced player and to have him re-sign with Australian Rugby is positive.”

“He is a leader at the Waratah and someone who will be important for them throughout the Super Rugby season.”
