With waves in the range of one-to-two feet continuing to disappoint fans on the North Shore of the island, organisers were left with no choice but to call off the day's proceedings.

The swell is still expected to build by the weekend, and the competition should be able to resume on Saturday, the final day of its 13-day window.

The event on the North Shore of the island has seen action on just three days so far. Only two of eight round-of-32 heats have been completed.

The likes of Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Bede Durbridge, Gabriel Medina and Jeremy Flores are all still in the competition.

The Reef Hawaiian Pro offers £623,000 in prize money this year, including a bonus of over £60,000, a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a custom Nixon watch for the overall series champion.
