Wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell says he’s transferring from Michigan and re-opening his recruitment. Mitchell, an early-enrollee at UM, is currently suspended by the Wolverines.

Mitchell was a four-star recruit in the class of 2016, according to Rivals. A native of New Jersey, he was ranked as the No. 30 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 prospect in New Jersey. Mitchell committed to Michigan in October and enrolled at the school in January.

According to the Detroit Free-Press, Mitchell was not part of Michigan’s team photo Aug. 7. Upon his release from Michigan, he can find another school and retain his eligibility for the 2016 season. However, it reasons that he won’t be an immediate contributor at his new school given the lack of preseason preparation time he’ll have. A redshirt would seem likely.

Mitchell’s announcement also comes on the heels of three high school commits changing their minds about the Wolverines this week.
