Swansea expected to announce Graham Potter as new manager next week

Swansea City are expected to announce the hire of Graham Potter next week, with the Englishman set to end his incredible run with Ostersunds FK by taking charge one final time this weekend.

The Allsvenskan takes a month-long break for the World Cup after the next round of fixtures and it is seen as the perfect time for Potter to end his successful spell with the team from remote northern Sweden.

Potter took Ostersund on a historic Europa League run this season, becoming the last British coach left in continental competition before his team would eventually succumb to Arsenal in the knockout stage.

Swansea parted company with Portuguese coach Carlos Carvalhal earlier this month after their late-season dip consigned them to Premier League relegation.

The majority owners of the club, American duo Steve Kaplan and Jason Levein, are keen to rediscover some of Swansea’s identity and find some stability after cycling through a number of managers in recent seasons as they desperately tried to stay afloat in the top flight.

Potter has little experience in the upper reaches of the EFL but has enjoyed significant success abroad and the Swans are confident that this will translate back to British football.

Swansea must now come to a compensation agreement with Ostersund but sources with understanding of negotiations do not expect this to be an obstacle to the appointment, which is likely to be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
