Swansea claimed top spot in the Championship table thanks to a second-half goal from Andre Ayew, who had earlier seen one ruled out.

Steve Cooper's side came back from falling a goal behind early on to move a point clear of overnight leaders Leeds.

Charlton took the lead within 65 seconds through a player whose name was already in the headlines. The Football Association launched an investigation on Tuesday into allegations that Jonathan Leko had been racially abused by Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla on Saturday.

That Valley contest had ended 1-0 to Charlton and the on-loan West Bromwich forward lost no time in replicating the scoreline in this one with a rising drive into the top corner.

Debutant Adam Matthews supplied the cross that was deflected into Leko's path; the Wales defender had grown up in Swansea but instead began his career at Cardiff.

Steve Cooper's side, superior in possession to the industrious hosts, were back on level terms within 15 minutes through Yan Dhanda.

The midfielder saw a low drive deflected beyond the reach of home goalkeeper Dillon Phillips but the move itself was notable for the way the Swans kept the ball moving swiftly in a crowded opposition box, with Jay Fulton claiming an assist.

Fulton suffered a double disappointment three minutes into the second half, firstly when Phillips pulled off a point-blank parry at the far post, and then when he hooked the rebound across goal to give Ayew a simple header a raised flag, seemingly to indicate that the ball had gone out of play, ruled it out.

There was no doubt in the 65th minute however when Charlton failed to deal with a corner to allow Ayew a simple finish for a forward of his calibre.

Charlton piled men forward in search of an equaliser but Swansea held out despite two penalty shouts by the home side.
