Swansea’s Greatest Ever Goalscorers

While there’s not a lot of Swansea City news (apart from the ‘fact’ that Jonjo Shelvey was undersold at £12 million…), I have decided to write an uplifting list of five of Swansea’s greatest ever goalscorers.

Firstly, this isn’t a top five - as some on here have scored slightly less than others - and it only covers league goals (not cups or friendlies).

But the five below are all included for good reason. Now bask in their goal-scoring prowess…

1) Ivor Allchurch

So good he’s got his own statue!

Perhaps the greatest player to ever pull on a Swans shirt, Ivor Allchurch remains Swansea’s greatest goalscorer, with 164 league goals to his name - scored over two periods with the club, covering 20 years (1947-1968).

Fast, agile and a lethal finisher, Allchurch also netted a further 28 goals in cup matches. It’s pretty unlikely anyone will break his record.

2) Robbie James

The tragic end to Robbie James’ life could not shadow the incredible career he enjoyed - playing 782 league games for all his clubs (484 for the Swans) over 25 years, with a superb 155 Swansea league goals to his name.

An industrious worker on the pitch, he also scored a further 31 goals in the cups. Sadly, he died in 1998 at the age of 40 while on the pitch playing for Llanelli Town.

3) Jack Fowler

A real record breaker for Swansea Town, Jack Fowler scored 102 league goals for the club in just six seasons - from 1924 to 1930.

He still holds the club records for the most goals scored in a single match (when he scored five against Charlton Athletic in September 1924), and the most Swansea hat-tricks - scoring nine in three years.

An all round excellent goalscorer, and perhaps the club’s first poster boy. He shares the third spot on Swansea’s top ten list with Herbie Williams.

4) Alan Curtis

Still with the club and playing an important role as he has always done.

But during his playing days he was one of the most prolific scorers around, hammering in 95 league goals as the Swans made their way from the Fourth to First Division at the end of the seventies.

His most famous goal? Probably the one he scored in Swansea’s maiden First Division match against Leeds United at the Vetch in 1981 (search for it, it’s worth a watch!). Perfect.

5) Lee Trundle

Although ‘Magic Daps’ was out-scored by Swans legends Len Thompson and Harry Deacon, the 82 league goals he fired in for the club as they dragged themselves out of an awful mess in 2003 were of utmost importance.

One of Trundle’s most famous is the one he volleyed in during the Football League Trophy Final in 2006 - sensational (again, one well worth searching for!).
