In response to the findings of the London 2012 Performance Debrief, the British Gas Open meet will be held at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds from March 7-10.

The event will replace the 2013 British Gas Swimming Championships - the World Championship trials - which have been moved from March to June 26-30 - one month from the start of the Long Course World Championships

The new dates for the Sheffield meet more closely mirror the American system, in which trials for major competitions are generally held very close to the actual meet.

The British Gas Open, which will be open to foreign competitors, will become a regular fixture on the British Swimming calendar and will act as the trials for the European Junior Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2013.

It will also be the first stage of selections for the World Championships Open Water places.
