Tammy Abraham confident he will solve Chelsea striker woes

Tammy Abraham believes he can be the answer to Chelsea's striker woes and wants a World Cup spot to prove it.

The Swansea loanee is eyeing a late break into Gareth Southgate's plans for Russia to give his parent club no choice but to select him next season.

Chelsea have struggled to replace Diego Costa and £60million signing Alvaro Morata is yet to score a league goal in 2018.

Olivier Giroud joined from Arsenal for around £18million in January as boss Antonio Conte looks for a solution and Abraham feels he can be it.

"If I got into the World Cup squad I would be knocking on the door at Chelsea," said the 20-year-old, who has made two substitute appearances for the Blues.

"I have to finish (the season) strong, look to the World Cup squad this summer and then focus on Chelsea. My aim is to go back and do well with Chelsea.

"I like to believe Chelsea is where I will go through and do well. I have been there since I was six years old. My dream is to break into the first team."

Abraham is currently with the England Under-21s ahead of Saturday's friendly with Romania at Molineux and Tuesday's Euro 2019 qualifier with Ukraine in Sheffield.

He has dropped down to Aidy Boothroyd's squad after making his senior debut against Germany in November before playing against Brazil.

But Abraham has not scored in the Premier League since October having battled injury during Swansea's relegation fight and knows he has to improve to make the plane to Russia.

He said: "For me, it shows I have to keep doing it at my club, Swansea. It has been a tough spell and I didn't really expect, with such big competition, to get straight back into the England team.

"I just have to do my best and get another chance.

"Look at the top strikers like Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero. They are ruthless and every time they get a shot people think they are going to score.

"That is what I have to put into my game. It won't just fall for me, I have to make it happen.

"I have learned you have to step it up. I am learning through tough times at a very young age."
