Taylor Swift's new version of 1989 has broken her own Spotify streaming records.

After its release on Friday, the re-recorded edition of her smash hit 2014 album became the most streamed album in its first 24 hours of release ever on Spotify.

According to bosses at the streaming platform, she also became the most streamed artist in a single day - breaking the record she set with her latest album, Midnights, this time last year.

In addition to 1989's 16 original songs, the new version features five previously unreleased songs from her vault.

The I Knew You Were Trouble singer began her project of re-recording all the albums she made for her previous label Big Machine Records in 2019, after she objected to her master tapes being owned by music manager Scooter Braun, who bought Big Machine.

She has now re-recorded and released all her Big Machine albums except for her 2006 self-titled debut and 2017's Reputation.
