BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed to Cricbuzz in a statement that the board is willing to stick on with Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian cricket team in all formats and in the process has denied allegations regarding the possibility of split captaincy. There wer reports that Rohit Sharma might be annouced as the white-ball captain post the T20 World Cup but the BCCI secretary has disregarded such possibilities.

Jay Shah confirmed the same while also speaking about BCCI’s proposal to the ECB regarding playing two extra T20Is in their three-match schedule to be played when India returns to the UK next year.

“It is correct that we have offered to play two extra T20Is when we visit England next July (only for the white-ball games). Instead of three T20Is, we will play five T20Is. Alternately, we will be willing to play one-off Test as well. It is up to them to choose either of the offers,” Shah told Cricbuzz on Monday (September 13).

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail in the UK reported of BCCI’s offer to the ECB regarding adding two more T20Is to the schedule.

“However, the offer — designed to help ease a potential shortfall of 40 million pounds in English cricket’s already stretched budget — would be instead of, not as well as, the rescheduled Test. The offer of a rescheduled Test still stands” reports in Daily Mail said.

The Manchester Test was cancelled after the Indian team expressed their apprehension of playing the game with COVID scare in their camp. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also said that BCCI wants the Test match to be played later as the fifth Test of the series and not a one-off Test match.

“We are ready to play extra ODI and T20Is and that’s not an issue. “Just that the Test match that will be played later will be the fifth match of the series” said Ganguly to PTI.
