Damon Lathrope has been struggling in recent weeks with an ankle complaint, but the midfielder emerged unscathed through his shift in the 2-0 defeat to Swindon on Tuesday and is expected to line up for the Gulls once more this weekend.
Ling is set to name an unchanged side for the visit of Vale, although on-loan Walsall forward Ryan Jarvis is pushing for a recall.
The Torquay boss has set his side a target of 82 points to ensure automatic promotion, telling the Western Morning News: "For me, Swindon are already up and the rest of us, maybe six or seven clubs, are fighting for the other two places.
"Paolo Di Canio (Swindon manager) believes that 82 points will be enough and I think I agree with him."
Anthony Griffith will return to the Port Vale squad for the trip to Torquay.
Griffith has completed a two-match suspension after accumulating 10 yellow cards this season and the midfielder is set to bolster the options of manager Micky Adams for the game at Plainmoor.
Clayton McDonald will serve the second game of his two-match ban for his red card in the defeat at Crawley so teenager Joe Davis looks set to keep his place in defence after making his full debut in the 1-0 home win over Hereford on Tuesday night.
Fellow youngster Phil Roe was on the bench against the Bulls and he could be included in the squad once more.
Strikers Tom Pope and Ben Williamson and midfielder Kingsley James are options for Adams should he wish to make any changes.
