‘Teenage YouTuber’: Agbonlahor slams Rio Ferdinand for telling Unai Emery to ‘sit down’
Gabby Agbonlahor has branded Rio Ferdinand a ‘teenage YouTuber’ after the Manchester United legend told Unai Emery to ‘sit down’ after Manchester United’s win over Aston Villa.
United ended Villa’s 10-game unbeaten run on Sunday as Bruno Fernandes’ striker was enough for the Red Devils to claim all three points at Old Trafford.
Villa have become genuine contenders for a European place following Emery’s appointment, with the Spaniard completely turning things around at Villa Park following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard.
Before the clash with United, Villa had an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League, though those hopes were distinguished with the Villans now seven points behind United having played two games more than their rivals.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand was eulogising over the displays of Fernandes, who he claimed would “have a statue” by now if he played for Arsenal, and aimed an unnecessary dig at Emery in the process.
He said: “Did you see Bruno’s numbers? Wow. The guy, it’s remarkable what he is doing. If he was at Arsenal he’d probably have a statue now at the Emirates with the numbers he has done!
“We stopped their 10-game unbeaten run. Unai Emery was producing miracles, and who steps up to stop him? Bruno. Sit back down, Unai. Have a reality check and know your place.”
Ferdinand later added more context to the quotes, tweeting ‘full respect for Unai and the miracles he’s done at Aston Villa’.
But it wasn’t enough to appease former Villa striker Agbonlahor, who likened Ferdinand’s comments to those of a ‘teenage YouTuber’.
‘Very uncalled for from Rio to tell our Gaffa to sit down,’ Agbonlahor tweeted. ‘I’d expect that from a teenage youtuber not a legend of the game. Maybe we can discuss this tomorrow on Talksport.’
Emery will be hoping his Villa side can bounce back from the disappointment of the United defeat with a trip to Molineux to take on Wolves on Saturday ahead of a crucial final three games against top seven rivals Tottenham, Liverpool and Brighton.
