Erik ten Hag has reportedly handed the Manchester United bosses a shortlist of six strikers ahead of the summer transfer window as the clubs weighs up whether to make an £80m bid for their top target.

A striker is Ten Hag’s priority this summer as the Dutch boss looks to add someone to his side who can score consistently from the No.9 position.

Wout Weghorst arrived in January, and despite doing his bit for the team, but has managed just two goals in 18 games and it’s not clear whether his loan move from Burnley will be made permanent.

United have been heavily linked with Harry Kane, and Mirror claim the club is ‘weighing up whether to launch an £80m bid’.

But there’s thought to be unease among the United chiefs at having to deal with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who’s renowned for his tough negotiations.

United want to avoid being drawn into another length transfer saga having spent great time and resources attempting to lure Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona last summer.

Because of a ‘potentially prohibitive price tag’, Ten Hag has told United of five further strikers he would be willing to work with next season, which is certainly handy for headlines.

Why then one of those on the list is Victor Osimhen – who would likely cost significantly more then Kane – isn’t explained by Mirror, who focus on him admitted it was “dream” to play in the Premier League earlier this month as links with United increased.

Osimhen said: “I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me. A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I’m in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday but as I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”

Goncalo Ramos is also named having scored 24 goals in all competitions for Benfica this term, and is joined by Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani, whose form has propelled him into the France national team.

Mohammed Kudus is also included, which would be an odd choice as although he’s scored 18 goals this term he’s done so from a deeper position.

And Rasmus Hojlund is the final member of Ten Hag’s six-striker band, with the 20-year-old impressing for Atalanta in his first season in Serie A, and for Denmark, for whom he scored five goals in their two recent Euro 2024 qualifiers.
