Erik ten Hag has been given another major headache at Manchester United after Anthony Martial almost came to blows with a youth team player in training.

The manager is currently dealing with the fallout of Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan. Ten Hag has held a meeting with top Man Utd officials about how he and the club should respond.

They look set to sack Ronaldo by terminating his contract. This would see the Portuguese lose out on around £16million wages, although it is clear he wants to leave as soon as possible.

Martial is one of Ten Hag’s options to replace Ronaldo up front after the World Cup. However, Man Utd’s strikers are becoming a big problem for the Dutchman at the moment.

According to the Daily Mirror, Martial has been involved in a training ground ‘bust-up’ with 18-year-old midfielder Dan Gore.

The teenager had been promoted to first-team training to fill the gap left by those playing at the World Cup. Martial is one of several stars left at Carrington, and Ten Hag is using the youth players to fill up training.

However, things went from bad to worse for Ten Hag when Gore hit Martial with a late challenge. The tackle is described as being ‘robust’ and it sparked an ‘angry confrontation’ between the duo.

Martial allegedly ‘lashed out’ and caught Gore, who stood his ground. The pair were then pulled apart. And Gore was told tackling first-team players like that shouldn’t be done in training matches.

Man Utd ace forced to apologise for behaviour

Martial ended up apologising to the youngster, and Gore did too.

Sources at Man Utd have insisted to the Mirror these are normal incidents when it comes to training sessions at top clubs. After all, competition for places is fierce and every player wants to impress.

But Ten Hag could have probably done without this training ground bust-up after being caused so much stress by the Ronaldo interview. He will want his Man Utd squad, particularly the strikers, to stop making all the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Martial is set to battle Marcus Rashford for a starting spot at centre-forward once Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford.

While Ten Hag is hoping to get the best out of Martial, it is instances like these which will worry the boss. Martial appears to have a bit of a temper and opposition defenders could use this to their advantage by getting him in trouble with the referee.

Anthony Martial could soon be replaced

The need for a new striker at Man Utd is more urgent than ever. Luckily for Ten Hag, Man Utd chiefs have a few stars in mind.

They like the look of Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen. He is enjoying another top campaign, having found the net 10 times in 14 games so far.

Those at Napoli insist he is not for sale in January though, so Ten Hag would have to wait until next summer before landing him.

An alternative is PSV’s Cody Gakpo. He is less of a traditional number nine as he also likes to operate on the left wing.

But Gakpo has proven himself to be one of the top forwards in the Netherlands. This season alone he is on 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances.

And unlike Osimhen, Gakpo could be on the move this winter. PSV are open to a sale, as long as their asking price is met. This apparently sits at €45m (currently £39m).

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been told where they can take advice from Man Utd in the pursuit of Jude Bellingham.
