Erik ten Hag claims there are still two areas of the Man Utd squad he is looking to improve before the end of the transfer window.

The Red Devils have so far been behind many of their ‘Big Six’ rivals in the transfer market with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal all doing early business.

Man Utd made their first signing last week, bringing in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord for £12.9m as Ten Hag starts to put his stamp on the squad.

More deals are expected with strong links to Christian Eriksen, Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez among a list of reported targets

When asked about potential transfers, Ten Hag told reporters at a press conference: “We want to have the right players. We have a really good squad, we’re working on developing our way of play and if the opportunity is there, we will strike.”

When asked about their pursuit of De Jong specifically, Ten Hag added: “Definitely we are searching for players in the midfield and also in offence we are still looking for players. I never talk about players who are not under contract at Man United, players at different clubs. I cannot tell you anything about this issue.”

On the signing of Malacia, who Ten Hag knows well from his time in the Eredivisie, he continued: “He has the profile of a modern full-back. Defending good and tough to beat and in offence really good, that’s why.”

Man Utd face Liverpool in a friendly match ahead of the new season at 2pm tomorrow in the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

And Ten Hag is looking forward to testing his current squad against Liverpool with the Dutchman “happy” to be playing in front of their Thai fans.

Ten Hag said: “Yes, playing against Liverpool is always exciting. Man United vs Liverpool is a big game and it’s a really good test for us.

“The standard of Manchester United is to win every game. We are happy to play this game here in Bangkok for the many fans.”
