The striker at the very top of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United wishlist has been identified, while their chances of signing another target in Goncalo Ramos have also been analysed by a trusted source.

The Red Devils are ready to go big to sign a new No 9 this summer. Indeed, with Wout Weghorst’s temporary stay not likely to be extended, United are keeping aside a huge pot of cash to land a new frontman.

To that end, a number of options are emerging for United as Ten Hag looks to bring in a regular source of goals.

And a report on Wednesday suggests Harry Kane is likely to be the club’s No 1 target this summer. Indeed, his deal at Spurs expires in summer 2024 and, together with the uncertainty over their next manager, United seemingly sense their chance.

To that end, the report suggests an opening £80m bid will soon be launched.

However, Tottenham are notoriously difficult customers to deal with and any deal for Kane will not be easy.

And should that move fail, the club do have a pecking order of alternative targets with which to target.

Benfica star Ramos is one of those other names mentioned. He is enjoying an exceptional season after stepping up for the Portuguese club following Darwin Nunez’s move to Liverpool.

And with 24 goals and 10 assists to his name this season, it is easy to see why he is a man in demand. The 21-year-old also underlined his reputation with a World Cup finals hat-trick against Switzerland.

Indeed, with a £106m (€120m) clause in his contract, United at least know what is needed to sign Ramos.

Man Utd move for Goncalo Ramos unlikely

However, despite his brilliant form, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs believes a United approach for Ramos appears unlikely.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Jacobs said: “Goncalo Ramos has been on a number of top club’ radars for quite some time – long before his World Cup hat-trick for Portugal in the 6-1 win over Switzerland. The Benfica forward is in excellent club form with 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

“Ramos, who has a release clause of €120m, almost joined PSG last summer. But Benfica held out for close to €45m, which was seen as too high at the time.

“At the same time, several Premier League clubs looked with differing degrees of intent. Those include Manchester United, Newcastle, Leeds, Wolves, Southampton and Nottingham Forest.

“It’s no surprise therefore to see Ramos linked against with a move to Old Trafford. But Ramos himself has actually been expecting a new deal at Benfica. Rui Costa is yet to provide one. The 21-year-old would gladly stay another season for the right terms.”

Ten Hag striker obession is Victor Osimhen

Now Jacobs claims it is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen whom the United boss would most love to sign.

Citing his obsession with the Nigerian, he claims Ten Hag is dreaming of bringing the 91-goal hitman to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United are looking at several strikers. It’s more a long list than a short list. As a result Ramos, a bit like Tammy Abraham, is there but not necessarily right at the top.

“Manchester United are still obsessed with Victor Osimhen, who almost joined them before moving to Napoli, but decided against it due to a lack of game time.

“Harry Kane has also been discussed internally, but it all still depends on the England striker. Spurs want him to extend and that had been Kane’s primary intention before Antonio Conte’s dramatic exit.

“As I have reported many times, it’s going to cost around £100m to get Kane. And that’s still assuming Spurs are willing to do business. Daniel Levy simply won’t make things easy. Manchester United know just how much of a thorn in their side he can be from when they signed Dimitar Berbatov back in 2008.

“Neither Kane nor Osimhen will be easy to get. And that’s where Ramos or Abraham might prove smoother to facilitate and cheaper, too.”
