Tennis-French Open day five

PARIS (Reuters) - Highlights of the fifth day at the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the year, on Thursday (all times GMT).

World number one Ash Barty pulled out injured of her second-round match against Magda Linette, leaving the women's draw without its top two seeds.

The odds of Iga Swiatek retaining her title shortened after Barty retired. The Polish eighth seed showed poise, power and flair to demolish Rebecca Paterson 6-1 6-1 in 61 minutes.

In the men's draw, Roger Federer was the only player of the 'Big Three' to drop a set in the second round as he lost his usual cool in a 6-2 2-6 7-6(4) 6-2 win against Marin Cilic.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion lost the second set after a heated debate with the chair umpire over the time he was taking to towel down.

Rafael Nadal, the 13-time Roland Garros champion, was never in real trouble against Richard Gasquet, ending the French presence at the tournament with a 6-0 7-5 6-2 win.

World number one Novak Djokovic dispatched Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas 6-3 6-2 6-4 on his way to a potential semi-final clash against Nadal.

2125 NADAL DOWNS GASQUET AGAIN

Defending champion Rafael Nadal snatched his 17th win in as many tour-level matches against Richard Gasquet, outclassing the Frenchman 6-0 7-5 6-2, to improve Roland Garros record to 102-2.

The Spaniard's win over Gasquet means that for the first time in the Open era, no French men will feature in the third round of their home major.

1810 SWIATEK WINS 6-1 6-1 IN 61 MINUTES

Defending champion Iga Swiatek needed just over an hour to dispatch Sweden's Rebecca Peterson 6-1 6-1. Swiatek, who has dropped just seven games in her opening two matches, will next face Estonia's Anett Kontaveit.
