They say in sport you should never give up, and that was certainly the case for British tennis player Tara Moore after she fought back from 6-0, 5-0 down to win the match and complete a remarkable comeback.

The world no. 479 faced match point against Jessika Ponchet, at 30-40 in the sixth game of the second set, and looked as though she was heading for the exit at the ITF World Tour event in Sunderland, but the Brit refused to be beaten.

Moore saved match point and after winning the game, the 26-year-old found her rhythm against the French third seed. She secured the second set after winning the tie break, going on to take the deciding set 6-3 to move into the second round.

Moore, who has nine ITF titles, said on social media that the result was “never in doubt”.

She’ll face Germany’s Yana Morderger or Romanian Elena-Teodora Cadar in the second round.
