Texas loses star RB Bijan Robinson to season-ending elbow injury
The hits keep on coming for Texas.
UT head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Monday that the team lost star running back Bijan Robinson to a season-ending injury during Saturday’s loss to Kansas.
Robinson, one of the nation’s leading rushers, suffered a dislocated elbow on a third-quarter rush. Before the injury, Robinson had 70 yards on 14 carries to go with three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown.
With his season now over, Robinson ends his sophomore campaign with 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing and 26 receptions for 295 yards and four scores. Robinson rushed for at least 100 yards in six of the team’s first seven games. He is currently ninth in the nation in rushing yards and 14th in attempts.
In addition to Robinson, Sarkisian also announced that defensive back Josh Thompson is out for the year with a fractured fibula. A fifth-year senior, Thompson has 34 tackles and an interception this season. He has played in 45 career games for the Longhorns.
Texas has lost five straight
After a 4-1 start to Texas’ first year under Sarkisian, the Longhorns are currently embroiled in a historic losing streak.
The Longhorns were 30.5-point favorites of Kansas, a team that hadn’t won a road Big 12 game since 2008, yet lost 57-56 in overtime. With the loss, Texas has now lost five consecutive games for the first time since 1956. Yes, 1956.
At 4-6 overall, Texas needs to win its final two games over West Virginia and Kansas State to reach bowl eligibility.
