TGN Athlete of the Week: Tyler Bowman

Mar. 20—NorthWood boy's track and field senior Tyler Bowman has been named The Goshen News' Athlete of the Week for the week of March 11-17.

Bowman, who has been a sturdy component in the Panthers' field events to begin the fresh track season, reached 51'1" in the shot-put event during an indoor meet this past week.

The Panthers returner from last season has already qualified for the Hoosier State Relay's indoor track finals, set to take place this Saturday at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis. Bowman is currently seeded 16th out of 24 competitors in the large school division.

Bowman gathered 33% of the vote.

Runner-up: Nick Hofer

Another name who will be making the trip to Indianapolis this weekend is Fairfield's Nick Hofer.

Getting 30% of this week's fan vote, Hofer tossed 50'1" this past week in the shot-put event at Trine.

Hofer's best this indoor season is 50'2" and is currently seeded 10th in the small school division of the Hoosier State Relay's indoor track finals. He'll be joined by teammate Ethan Hochstetler, seeded 12th.

Also nominated: Lucas Linder

Lucas Linder, senior sprinter for Wawasee, received 19% of the fan vote.

Linder paced himself in the Warriors first outdoor meet of the season. In the win over East Noble, Linder placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.64 seconds and also placed first in the 200-meter dash later with a time of 23.17 seconds.

Also nominated: Kristina Petkova

Goshen girls track and field sprinter Kristina Petkova also earned a nomination this week. Petkova ran the fastest girls 60-meter dash in the coverage area, clocking in at 8.01 seconds during an indoor meet at Bethel, finishing second in the competition.
