Initially organisers had hoped that an incoming system would bring waves on Friday afternoon, but the bigger seas are now expected to arrive at the weekend.

When competition does commence, Brazilian defending champion Adriano de Souza will be up first in heat one, along with compatriot Raoni Monteiro and Brett Simpson of the USA.
