Thomas Frank left ‘speechless’ as Brentford shock Man City for ‘single biggest result in club’s history’

Thomas Frank believes Brentford’s victory over Manchester City is the biggest result in the club’s history.

Brentford stunned Premier League champions City on Saturday, beating them 2-1 to claim a first away of the season.

Ivan Toney struck either side of Phil Foden, with the striker’s second and winning goal coming in the 98th minute.

And Frank, who won the Championship play-offs with Brentford in 2021, believes the win at the Etihad has to go down as the biggest result in the club’s history.

“I was actually speechless in the dressing room,” said Frank. “I had to say some nice things to the players but that was [wow]...

“I would like to say, we came here with the aim to try and win the game. We never go into any game to try and minimise the defeat and we massively believed that [we could get a result].

“The players know what I said before the game, we then had half-time, there was a late equaliser in the first half, we could be a little bit disappointed.

“Then I said: ‘Guys, you’re never going to have a bigger chance of winning at the Etihad than today’, because we just felt we were on top of the game.

“I know we defended a lot, but the performance we put out here... maybe it’s the one, single biggest result in the club’s history. Not the most important one - that was others, the Play-Off final was another one.

“But a single result, against probably the best team in the world, they played their strongest line-up today, we are missing four players, the difference in budget is crazy, and then we perform and won, well-deserved, that is amazing.

“This was perfect, well-run, and the players did fantastic to perform the game-plan.”
