Warrington’s new signing Thomas Mikaele says he is relishing the challenge of moving to the other side of the world and playing in Super League.

The 24-year-old has joined the Wolves on a deal until the end of the 2024 season from struggling NRL side Wests Tigers, where he made 66 appearances.

Mikaele landed in England earlier this week and could make his debut for the Wolves in Sunday’s trip to Wakefield.

He said: “It is my first time in England and my first time travelling more than four hours out of Australia! I’ve got my family coming soon so I’m looking forward to that.

“It wasn’t a last resort coming to England. I could have stayed in the NRL but I’m still young. I’ve got a lot of footy ahead of me and I’m nowhere near my best yet.

“I thought it would be a good challenge for me to come over and get some good game time here. English footy is a bit different from the NRL so it will be good to get some experience over here.

“I’ve heard fantastic things about the club and that it is one of the top four teams in the Super League. There is a lot of history here and I know that it is a good club.”

Thomas Mikaele meets his new team-mates

The powerhouse Samoan had his first training session with Daryl Powell’s side on Monday, where he met his new team-mates.

He added: “Yesterday was my first day at training when I met everyone.

“It has been spoken about the vibe that I got from the players coming in. Everyone was welcoming and I had a chat to most of the boys. The coaching staff were great and everyone was good with me. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone a bit more.”
