Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in discussions with the Football Association about the England manager vacancy. Tuchel, 51, guided the Blues to Champions League victory in 2021 but was dismissed the following year.

He has been a favourite for the England job among bookmakers since Gareth Southgate stepped down post Euro 2024.

Sky Sports News' report follows a Times article on Monday suggesting Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had been approached about the role.

Tuchel is currently without a club, having departed Bayern Munich at the end of last season. His team narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Football Association chose not to comment on these reports. However, FA sources have consistently stated from the beginning of the process that they want the best candidate for the job, regardless of nationality.

Under-21 coach Lee Carsley is temporarily leading the senior team for the Nations League matches this autumn. Carsley's lack of clarity about his own ambitions has sparked renewed speculation about who will permanently succeed Southgate.
