Three generations of family celebrate golden wedding couple George and Liz

Meeting in the workplace was the start of five decades of romance for one golden couple from near Woodbridge.

George and Liz Marks married on May 19 1973 at Melton Grange, a Grade II listed mansion house in Woodbridge.

The couple who have two sons and four grandchildren honeymooned in Torquay.

Hobbies was a mutal bonding point for the couple and was what they cited among the reasons to their long marriage.

Mrs Marks said: “George played a lot of cricket over the years, and also enjoyed spending time bird watching.”

Mr Marks, who worked as an electronics engineer, agreed with his wife that having your own hobbies and interests is important.

The 92-year-old moved to Glebe House Resident Care Home, in Hollesley, near Woodbridge, last December after attending the home twice a week.

A celebration was held in the grounds of the care home and was attended by 30 guests, including family, old friends, and fellow residents.

Mrs Marks had been unable to find her wedding photos so was excited to pose for new photos with her husband and bridesmaid Bridget at the party.

Trish Middleton, care home manager, added: “We were delighted to host George and Liz’s golden wedding anniversary party, and luckily it was a sunny day so we could make the most of our garden.

“It was wonderful to see the couple so happy, some of their friends had travelled for the occasion, and Liz was thrilled to catch up with her bridesmaid, George’s niece Bridget Parsons, who was nine years old at the wedding.”
