Three players who Jurgen Klopp should start for Swansea v Liverpool

Danny Ward

The Wales international acquitted himself well on his Liverpool first-team debut at Vitality Stadium earlier this season. Danny Ward has earned rave reviews for his performances during a loan spell at Aberdeen. In stark contrast, Liverpool number one Simon Mignolet has been regularly criticised over the past 18 months or so. Giving the 22-year-old another chance against a poor Swansea City side would be a calculated gamble ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s first full season at Anfield. The Liverpool manager will surely freshen up his goalkeeping options in the summer, and to do that, Klopp needs to decide whether Ward has a long-term future at the Reds.

Jon Flanagan

For all that Alberto Moreno offers going forward, the Spain international’s Achilles heel is vacating his position and leaving space for opponents to exploit. Liverpool were punished in such a manner on Thursday night. Adrian Lopez scored an added time winner in Villarreal’s 1-0 victory at Estadio El Madrigal after Moreno surged forward in a late Liverpool attack. Jon Flanagan has secured his long-term future at Anfield but the next step will be to force his way back into Klopp’s starting line-up. The Liverpool full-back has been in absent in recent weeks as he works his way back to full fitness but some match time could be just the ticket, while taking Moreno out of the line-up for one game to keep him mentally fresh.

Sheyi Ojo

The 18-year-old has looked impressive on his fleeting appearances in the Liverpool side this season. Sheyi Ojo opened his Reds account with a goal against Exeter City in the FA Cup at Anfield earlier this year with a beautiful finish. The Liverpool No54 made an assist in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Stoke City earlier this month after his accurate cross teed up Daniel Sturridge at Anfield. His pace could cause Swansea problems on the break, too.
