Three reasons why Liverpool should keep Joe Allen

Klopp and Allen relationship

Jurgen Klopp has spoken fondly of Joe Allen on numerous occasions since taking over at Anfield. Despite Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino scoring in a 2-0 win against Manchester United, the 48-year-old reserved special praise for Allen after the Wales international’s cameo performance. The 26-year-old was on the score sheet in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Watford at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday. And again, Klopp was keen to stress the performance of his midfield man: “He is a wonderful boy and professional football player. That’s really good.”

Huge improvement

There is no doubting that Klopp has brought out the best in Allen. The Welsh midfielder was being touted with a move away from Anfield in the January transfer window after falling out-of-favour under the manager who signed him in 2012, Brendan Rodgers. But Allen has carved himself a niche as Klopp’s reinforcer from the substitute’s bench, making vital contributions during the second half of games during Liverpool’s Europa League run.

‘Joe Allen football’

Simply put, Klopp is a fan of 'Joe Allen football’. With that in mind, the former Swansea midfielder must have a role to play in the German’s vision for Liverpool moving forward. What is 'Joe Allen football’? “Brilliant technique, hard-working, very lively, very energetic.” It sounds an awful lot like Jurgen Klopp football. With the games set to come thick and fast next season should the Reds win the Europa League final later this month, Allen will be an important asset from the bench.
