Tift track hopeful for annual Anthony Bateman Invitational

Mar. 8—TIFTON — A wide array of area track teams will make their way to Tift County High Saturday for the annual Anthony Bateman Invitational.

Admission is $5 to the event, which will get started around 9:30 a.m. Trophies will be presented at the end of the day.

As usual, head coach J.C. Clark worries about the weather. Right now, conditions are not looking too good for Saturday, with thunderstorms projected. Still, Clark remains optimistic for a different forecast and a full day of competition.

Tift County hosted a quad meet last week. They were not in action over the weekend, but did host their intrasquad "Under the Lights" Monday for middle and high school trck and field athletes.

Sixteen teams planned to make the trip as of Tuesday, spanning from Carver (Columbus) to Coffee. Two Tift region opponents, Lee County and Houston County, have signed up. Neighbors Turner County, Cook and Berrien are on the list as well.

Still more schools can add their names to the list, said Clark. The deadline to sign up is March 7.

While events are going on, Clark said there will be a full concession stand. A grill will be on-site for fresh hamburgers and hot dogs.
