Jadon Sancho struggled with his ‘timekeeping’ during previous international breaks as the Man Utd star was left out of England’s World Cup squad.

The 22-year-old signed for Man Utd in 2021 with a £72m transfer from Borussia Dortmund finally ending over a year of speculation that he would move to Old Trafford.

Sancho contributed 37 goals and 41 assists in his final three seasons in the Bundesliga for Dortmund but he hasn’t been able to get anywhere near those numbers at Old Trafford.

He managed three goals and three assists in 29 Premier League matches for Man Utd last term and he’s started this season in similar form with two goals and one assist in 10 league fixtures.

That form has led to him being overlooked for the England squad, which will fly out to Qatar after this weekend’s set of Premier League games.

Attacking players like Man Utd team-mate Marcus Rashford and Leicester City’s James Maddison have been in much better form and have secured their places on the plane.

And the Daily Telegraph claims that Sancho’s ‘timekeeping was an issue for England backroom staff before losing his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad’.

Despite Southgate not being pleased, it is claimed that his poor form is the only reason he’s out of the World Cup. The Daily Telegraph added:

‘It is understood his omission was based purely on his overall performances – Sancho has not started United’s last five games – but it has emerged the 22-year-old was late for a team meeting when he was in the squad last October for the qualifying win over Andorra.

‘Southgate has a rule in place to only start meetings when every player is present, meaning the squad were left waiting. The England manager left Sancho out of his next squad and cited players returning from injury and competition for places, with the forward coming off the bench for United at the time.’

Sancho was trolled soon after the England squad announcement with budget airline Ryanair tweeting: “@Sanchooo10 we’ll still fly you somewhere.”

The post was accompanied by a kiss face emoji and faced a huge backlash online with former Man Utd youth player Ravel Morrison leading the disgruntled comments.

He wrote “this ain’t cool” in response to the post, with numerous fans reacting negatively to an apparent attempt to troll the Man Utd footballer.

Rio Ferdinand recently admitted he was shocked at how poorly Sancho had adapted to the Premier League following his move from Dortmund.

“His confidence just isn’t there. The confidence and the swagger when he walked through the doors at Old Trafford isn’t there right now,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel.

“I don’t know what it is. I’m trying to put my finger on it because the team is actually getting him into good positions.

“The ball gets to him and the Sancho I know and have seen… get him on the corner of the box and you’re in dreamland.

“But then he’s just coming back out and playing back and recycling the ball. This isn’t you man.

“I don’t know what it is and Antony has been the same in some games. A lot of the times he comes back, doesn’t go on the outside or cross the ball. He’s exciting but he’s still passing the ball back a lot.

“With Sancho I just feel that it’s in there and what I will give him credit for is his defensive work. His shape has been good but it’s the other side of the game that’s missing and that’s why we bought him.

“We didn’t buy him to be a defender, we bought him to destroy teams, I want to see more from him and Anthony in that area.”
