Halifax Panthers forward Titus Gwaze has received an eight-match ban following the club’s win over Barrow in the Championship.

The 23-year-old was one one of two Panthers players sent from the field in a mass brawl against Barrow in Round 16, live on Premier Sports. He was dismissed for picking up an injured Hakim Miloudi at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.

He was hit with a Grade F charge for Other Contrary following the match. His side went on to win 43-18 despite being a man down.

He will now be unavailable for Simon Grix’s side until Round 26 in the Championship.

Barrow’s Miloudi faced the same charges earlier this season against Batley, having picked up an injured opposition player. He also received an eight-match suspension and was fined £250.

Meanwhile, Halifax centre Greg Worthington was guilty of a Grade D charge of punching in the same fixture. The 31-year-old threw punches at opposition and France international Miloudi. He received a three-match ban.

James Woodburn-Hall signs new Halifax deal

Jamaica international James Woodburn-Hall has signed a new two-year contract with the Panthers. The new deal re-signs the long-serving full-back until the end of the 2024 season.

The 27-year-old has been with Halifax since 2016, having previously featured in Super League with London Broncos.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to sign a new deal with the club”, said Woodburn-Hall. “I’ve been here a while now and I make no secret about it, I love playing here.

“I’m starting to see some of my better rugby as well in the last couple of years playing in that full back position so I’m very happy, very content, and just happy to be playing constantly.”

Head coach Grix added: “We’re really happy that Woody is staying with us. It was a very quick and easy discussion. I think he’s come on leaps and bounds and I think he’s found his home at full back after years of a utility role.”
