TNT Sports were forced to deliver an on-air apology during Liverpool's match with RB Leipzig as a technical issue left the broadcaster panicking. Audio problems had persisted right from kick-off, and that impacted the quality of the commentary during the fixture's early stages.

Co-commentator Lucy Ward was barely audible in the opening exchanges of the game with lead commentator Darren Fletcher initially unaffected. But a few minutes into Wednesday night's Champions League meeting, both microphone feeds were lost.

Viewers were left with just the noises of the stadium as TNT Sports were forced to show an on-screen apology for the lack of commentary. Fortunately for the broadcasters, no goal was scored during the interim.

Fletcher was then required to share an on-air apology when normal service resumed. He said: "Well apologies for the early technical problems here, we can't quite get the microphones to work inside this stadium.

"German technology and all that - expected it to be better! Apologies, though, sent [to you] from Leipzig."

Some technical problems persisted further, including short bursts of high-pitch ringing - with Ward's microphone going quiet once again at one point, but by the 18th minute, audio levels were restored to maximum quality once again. The match was goalless by that point and, ten minutes later the commentary team were able to call Darwin Nunez's opener for Liverpool.

TNT Sports are the lead broadcasters for the Champions League in the UK. However, the company lost exclusive rights this year with Amazon Prime Video airing one live match per game-week. The BBC is also this year showing highlights of the Champions League.
