Chelsea have spent big money since Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich. More than £1billion has been spent on new signings, with the Blues going for young stars of the future on long contracts.

It is a business plan that has been criticised by many, particularly with Chelsea struggling under Graham Potter, Frank Lampard and then Mauricio Pochettino before Enzo Maresca was appointed head coach in the summer.

The Boehly and Clearlake Capital era had started with Thomas Tuchel - soon to be England manager - at the helm, while Bruno was also in caretaker charge of the team for one match, making it six head coaches and counting under Boehly.

Chelsea have signed 39 players - Joao Felix twice makes it 40 deals in total - since the start of the 2022/23 summer transfer window - after Boehly and Clearlake took over. And things finally appear to be making sense, with Maresca getting his burgeoning squad singing form the same hymn sheet so far this season.

The Blues are fourth in the table, just three points behind Manchester City and Arsenal and four behind leaders Liverpool. The Blues take on Arne Slot's Reds at Anfield on Sunday in a big test of their top four credentials under Maresca.

But despite the huge transfer spend in recent seasons, former player Ryan Bertrand believes we will not see the best of Chelsea until after another FOUR more transfer windows!

Speaking at the launch of Ladbrokes' Gaffer of all Accas event, Bertrand said: "I do think Chelsea could still strengthen, of course. For example, if you look on that left-hand side, the left-wing, that spot is very much open for someone. They're willing Mykhailo Mudryk to finally come into the game, and start to show Champions League level performances, which haven't been there just yet. Jadon Sancho has come in now, too, so that left-hand side is there for someone to make it their own.

"There are probably a couple of areas in the middle of the park that need tinkering, or personnel changes. I think that's now what it's about; finding the right personnel for the right positions. I can definitely see the team evolving in the next, I reckon, four transfer windows. After that, you'll see the team in its final form.

"Next year, you'll have the likes of Estevao [Willian] coming into the first-team as well, and then there'll be Kendry Paez who'll follow, not long after that. These are big, big talents, who the club have invested heavily in, from around the world, who'll join up with the squad. How does that work with the current dynamic? Who gets moved on from the team, who maybe thinks they're doing well up to this point? There are going to have to be some players moving on, because there's been so much investment in these new players.

"It's an interesting situation at Chelsea right now, but like I said, I think within another four transfer windows from now, we'll see the team in its final form."
