Todd Cantwell 'wasn't where he wanted to be at Rangers' as Blackburn Rovers boss takes pre season potshot
Todd Cantwell "wasn't where he wanted to be" last season at Rangers, according to Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace.
The midfielder slapped in a transfer request earlier this summer in a move that was publicised by manager Philippe Clement. The 26-year-old claimed he never told the Belgian he didn't want to play for the club but Eustace read between the lines and explained that his new signing wanted out because he wasn't being given the best chance to "showcase" his talents.
Cantwell isn't quite ready to start for his new club yet, says the manager, but he did reveal that his fitness is improving. And he has shown moments on the pitch that hint at him being close to a comeback having seemingly had "no pre-season" at Ibrox.

"Todd’s coming in with a point to prove," Eustace said. "Todd is a top-class player at this level. He's been at Rangers for the last few seasons and last year probably wasn't where he wants to be. We will give him the opportunity to showcase himself.
"He's a top player at this level and I know he's very determined to hit the heights he has in the past. He has lots of experience, he's been promoted three times out of the league so we're very excited that he's here.
"Todd isn't ready to start. He's not had a pre-season, he is behind a lot of the lads. He's shown glimpses in training that he's getting fitter and we have to manage him properly. We will do that over the next two or three weeks. He could be involved from the bench, we'll have to wait and see."
