Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted he is not sure who his next club will be, but he can imagine returning to Anfield as an opponent to Liverpool.

Liverpool recently confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be released when his contract expires at the end of the season. The same goes for Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Naby Keita.

All four of them got the chance to say goodbye to the Anfield crowd after Liverpool’s final home game of the season on Saturday, which was a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.

Coincidentally, Aston Villa have been named as one of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s potential next takers. However, there will be plenty of other links for the 29-year-old.

Indeed, Oxlade-Chamberlain has confirmed his future is still up for grabs – though he has hinted he will stay in the Premier League if possible.

“I don’t know what happens next,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “It will be a busy summer chasing after him [his boy] and then seeing what comes next.

“But yeah, I’m sure I will probably be back here at some point in the difficult away dressing room, against these fans – I’ve done it before. I’ll try to do my best and if I manage to score or anything, I won’t be celebrating, I promise you that, because I’ve got so much respect for everything that I’ve been through here.

“But I told Virgil [van Dijk] I might actually be able to dribble past him for the first time ever!”

Oxlade-Chamberlain looks back at Liverpool spell

Reflecting on his six seasons as a Liverpool player, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I think journey is the right way to put it. It has been a journey but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it.

“Of course there’s been some tough times but there’s been some absolutely amazing memories and amazing times. It’s a bit surreal at the minute and it’s not quite sunk in just yet.

“It’s a nice way to finish things, for sure. The fans are amazing as always and, for sure, I’ll miss that.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal in 2017 and made a good impression across 42 appearances in his debut season on Merseyside.

However, it ended with a serious injury and other physical issues have affected him in more recent seasons.

Still, he has played more than 100 times in the Premier League for Liverpool, with whom he has won five trophies. Therefore, he is definitely still appreciated by Jurgen Klopp.

But the time is right for a new challenge for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer. Only time will tell where he ends up next.

Meanwhile, Milner seems to be on the verge of a move to Brighton. Like Oxlade-Chamberlain, the futures of Firmino and Keita will still take some deciphering, though.
