Legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady has announced his decision to retire from the sport “for good”.

In a brief social media video posted on Wednesday, the seven-time Super Bowl champion confirmed his exit from the sport having briefly quit during last year’s off-season.

Brady, 45, is a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player award winner and was named the MVP in five of his ten Super Bowl appearances.

Six of his seven victories came with the New England Patriots after being picked 199th in the 2000 NFL Draft. His most recent win came in his first year at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in 2020.

However, the Florida franchise finished outside the play-offs in the current season - that will end when Kansas City face Philadelphia in this weekend’s Super Bowl - for Brady’s first failure to make the season-ending matches since 2008.

He said: “Good morning, guys. I'll get to the point right away. I'm retiring for good.

“I know the process was a pretty big deal last time so when I woke up this morning I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first.

“It won't be long winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.”
