Tom Burgess future confirmed as England star signs Rabbitohs extension
England international Tom Burgess has signed a new deal that will see him remain with NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs until the end of the 2024 season.
The 30-year-old prop has made 211 appearances in the NRL – all for the Rabbitohs – since making the move from Bradford ahead of the 2013 campaign.
Burgess has won 30 caps for England, playing in three World Cups. He has also represented Great Britain on four occasions.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be extending my time with Souths. It’s a very special club and I’m honoured to wear the colours every day.
“Souths has been a big part of my family since moving to Australia. I couldn’t envisage myself playing for any other club in Australia.
“It’s great to be going around for another year for our members and fans.
“This is a special place and we can certainly do some special things for our supporters in the next few years.”
Rabbitohs boss delighted to see Tom Burgess extend
Burgess won the NRL Premiership with the Rabbitohs in 2014, playing alongside his brothers Sam and George in their 30-6 win over Canterbury Bulldogs in the Grand Final.
The Dewsbury-born front-rower will move to fourth on South Sydney’s all-time most-capped player list when he plays against the Roosters on Friday night.
Rabbitohs head of football Mark Ellison said: “We’re very happy to have Tom extend his time here at South Sydney.
“His experience up front is invaluable to us considering the number of young middles we have coming through the ranks.
“Tom has played at the highest levels in the NRL and for his country. He knows what it takes to win a Premiership and he has played more games for South Sydney than any other prop forward in our club’s history.
“We’re all looking forward to working with Tommy over this year and next as we try to reach our ultimate goal, winning another Premiership for this great club.”
Burgess was named in the 2021 World Cup’s Team of the Tournament. He also played for the World All Stars in 2016.
