Tom Holland tells Instagram followers that his upcoming video game movie is ‘everything I dreamed it would be’

Tom Holland took to Instagram to share with fans how awesome it is to be Nathan Drake.

The “Spider-Man” star is currently hard at work filming the upcoming “Uncharted” movie, based on the beloved eponymous video game series. But on his Sunday off, he hosted an impromptu Instagram Live Q&A session and gushed about his experiences on the upcoming film’s set.

When a viewer asked Holland about how “Uncharted” is coming along, he had nothing but good things to say.

“Filming is going so well,” Holland said during the Livestream. “It is going so well. The film is, like, everything I ever dreamed of being. I mean I don’t know if you guys ever played the games, but I was such a huge fan of the game.”

“Uncharted” marks the second time that Holland is playing an iconic action hero in a film adaptation. Holland is starring in the lead role of Nathan Drake, an agile adventurer who gets put on the path of becoming a treasure hunter after he is saved by his future mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

The movie itself is adapted from the Uncharted video games, a critically acclaimed and award-winning franchise that has been praised for delivering a Hollywood-esque gaming experience with cinematic set pieces, legendary locations and epic storylines. Think Indiana Jones if he was a wise-cracking youth with a lifetime membership at Brooklyn Boulders and a trademark henley instead of a hat.

Holland said that even gamers who have played through the Uncharted games will have some new surprises in store for them in the film. It’s been billed as a prequel to the video games, portraying a younger Nathan Drake who we’ve only gotten glimpses of in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

While Holland’s casting was a relatively recent development (he signed onto the project in 2017), “Uncharted” has been stuck in development hell since at least 2008. Over the years, the screenplay was constantly being reworked while names were announced only to be retracted later.

This time, the production seems dead set on finishing the film, even during the pandemic. The current release date is slated for July 16, 2021.

It’s not all been fun and games, though. Holland shared that he got minorly injured during filming.

“I do have the biggest bruise of all time though on my leg,” Holland joked. “But it’s in a bit of a revealing area for Instagram Live … But yeah, it is a glorious bruise.”
