Hull KR boss Tony Smith is hoping to welcome back key pair Mikey Lewis and Sam Wood for their home game against Salford this Sunday.

Lewis, 20, has been sidelined since April due to an ankle injury sustained against Castleford in the Challenge Cup.

24-year-old Wood suffered a dislocated patella earlier in May. He was taken off during the Robins‘ defeat to Leeds with fears that he initially picked up an ACL injury.

The Craven Park side are already without Jordan Abdull, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season through a quad injury.

On half-back Lewis, head coach Smith said: “We’re hoping that he (Lewis) might be right for Salford. We’re still hopeful.

“It’s just touch-and-go. The other day, he didn’t train after a day before he did train. As you build up the work load following the injury like he’s had, some days it’s a bit more tender than other days.

“We’ve just got to get him to the point where he can back up after training. He trained again today, so hopefully he’s getting that step closer.

“He’s going to see the consultant this afternoon (Monday), so that’ll give him that bit more of a better assessment of the situation. If he’s able to be selected for this week then great, if not, the extra week will do him good.”

On the injured winger or centre Wood, he added: “He (Sam) is pretty good. Once again, he’ll be touch-and-go.

“We’re hopeful for this week. He’s coming through his recovery cycle and we’re hopeful of it.

“It was a tender injury but he’s come along way with it and we’re hopeful that he’s able to be available for selection at least this week.”
