Erling Haaland and Harry Kane feature in the top 10 2022 top goalscorers list but the man at the top has nothing short of a phenomenal record.

The criteria: All club goals in all competitions for clubs in top five leagues. Sorry Mehdi Taremi.

10) Wissam Ben Yedder – Monaco (20 goals)
Not even in the latest France squad after his goals dried up this season; he has scored just twice, including the first of this Ligue Un season at the weekend against Stade Reims. Monaco coach Philippe Clement had even dropped his captain but recalled him in time for a big win that moved them into a respectable fifth.

9) Moussa Dembele – Lyon (20 goals)
Not even capped by France because, well, why would they need them? The impressive thing about Dembele is that all 20 goals were scored in Ligue Un, though he has scored only twice this season as Lyon have struggled.

8) Ciro Immobile – Lazio (21 goals)
At 32, he just keeps on keeping on. Five goals in seven Serie A games this season is excellent work from a striker who has hit 20 Serie A goals in five of his six full seasons with Lazio. That has got to be one the best £8.5m spends of all time.

7) Neymar – PSG (21 goals)
For a transfer that we instinctively think has not gone well, it really has gone quite well. He could absolutely tear up the World Cup.

6) Harry Kane – Tottenham (22 goals)
Played more football (3098 minutes) than anybody else on this list, which has helped him equal his 2021 total by mid-September.

5) Erling Haaland – Borussia Dortmund/Manchester City (24 goals)
Has played comfortably the least amount of football of anyone on this list but has already scored a frankly ludicrous 14 goals for Manchester City. You can read more of his ridiculous statistics here.

4) Christopher Nkunku – RB Leipzig (26 goals)
A target for Real Madrid as the long-term successor to Karim Benzema, though not scoring in his last five games for Leipzig is sub-optimal. As is his failure to open his account for France.

3) Karim Benzema – Real Madrid (27 goals)
Currently injured but also currently absolutely f***ing nailed on for the Ballon dOr.

2) Robert Lewandowski – Bayern/Barcelona (31 goals)
A goal every 80 minutes puts him level with Erling Haaland in terms of productivity, even at the age of 34. Just the 11 goals for Barcelona so far, which seems absolutely reasonable. He was the top scorer in 2021 and will be pretty damned close this year too. No Ballons for you though, Robbie. Does anybody call him Robbie? Or Bob? That’s something to ponder.

1) Kylian Mbappe – PSG (34 goals)
A goal every 78 minutes for PSG in 2022, is it? Ludicrous. As is the depth of French goalscorers as we head towards the World Cup.
