A pivotal lightweight bout has been added to the UFC 199: Rockhold vs. Weidman 2 fight card slated for June 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

UFC officials on Monday confirmed that Dustin Poirer will square off with Bobby Green, following an initial report by the Los Angeles Daily News.

Poirier (19-4) has been red hot lately, winning three consecutive bouts since returning to lightweight. He had a successful run at featherweight, but returned to 155 pounds after losing to now-featherweight-champion Conor McGregor in 2014. Poirier's current run includes a win over Joseph Duffy, the last man to defeat McGregor prior to his recent welterweight loss to Nate Diaz.

Green (23-6) reeled off four wins in his first four UFC bouts, quickly making him a lightweight title contender, but he has spent more than a year on the sidelines dealing with injuries after losing to Edson Barboza in November of 2014.

With Poirier currently ranked No. 10 in the UFC lightweight division and Green sitting at No. 12, the winner of this bout takes a big step towards a title shot.

A middleweight championship rematch between beltholder Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman headlines UFC 199, while bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz puts his title on the line against Urijah Faber in their trilogy bout.
