Torquay United now have three games in eight days after a week off, following their defeat of Truro City in the FA Trophy, with the difficult trip to Boreham Wood first on the calendar.

While Boreham started the season poorly, they have begun to climb the National League South table since the return of manager Luke Garrard, who left in the summer after the club was relegated from the National League, but returned after head coach Ross Jenkins parted ways with the club after just a handful of games.

And it won’t get any easier for the Gulls on Tuesday night when National South leaders Weston-super-Mare come to Plainmoor, before Torquay go to Enfield Town on the following Saturday.

Torquay go into the game against Boreham in fourth, four points behind Weston at the top, and four points ahead of Boreham in ninth, Both of those teams have played a game less than the Gulls though.

“It will be a tough game, Boreham Wood are a side that have got a ton of National League experience,” said Wotton. “They are a physical team and it’s a great set up. The pitch is beautiful by all accounts. So we know we are going to be in for a proper test. We have got three big games coming up in the next week.”

With Finley Craske out with an injury, signed Jordan Thomas in time for the game against Truro, and the Yeovil Town loanee is sure to start again after making an impressive debut last week. But other than Craske, and second goalkeeper Matt Wonnacott, who is recovering from a broken arm, the manager said at his Thursday press conference there were no other injury concerns ahead of this one.

Thomas came to Plainmoor, following the path of striker Jordan Young who made the permanent move a couple of weeks before him, while another new player is striker Keke Jeffers, who arrived on loan from Stoke City.

This has meant Ben Seymour has dropped out of the 16 a couple of times, while Brad Ash has had to spend more time on the bench than he might be comfortable with. But Wotton is happy with the new players - with a front three of Cody Cooke, Young and Jeffers likely again at Boreham.

“They have settled in really well,” said Wotton. “I think they have brought a little bit of quality to the squad. They are players that I have been chasing for a while. I’ve been patient and managed to get them through the door. As always, we are always looking to strengthen in every single area. Part of football is, players come in, players go out. It’s just the nature of the beast.”
