Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they have made Djed Spence their sixth signing of the summer after buying him from Middlesbrough.
Spence was a standout player for the Nottingham Forest side that won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season. He played 46 times for them and scored three goals, earning a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
In turn, the Middlesbrough-owned wing-back caught the attention of several other clubs. Forest were unable to keep him on a permanent basis and turned to Liverpool product Neco Williams instead.
As for Spence, Tottenham quickly established themselves as one of the leading contenders for his signature. Although there were some delays, Spurs have now completed a deal with Boro.
He becomes their sixth signing of the summer after Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet.
Spence has signed a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2027. He will provide competition on the right flank for the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.
Upon completing his move, Spence posted a farewell message to Nottingham Forest on Twitter, writing: “What a massive club, what a team and what special fans.
“We came from the bottom and made it all the way to the top. We turned dreams into reality and I can’t thank you all enough for the special journey we all shared together.
“Once a Red always a Red.”

Now, though, Spence will be wearing the lilywhite colours of Tottenham Hotspur. They will be giving the England under-21 international his first taste of Premier League football.
Spurs have not disclosed the transfer fee they have paid to Middlesbrough for his services. Previous reports have indicated the starting point could be £12.5m.
With add-ons, it could rise to as much as £20m.
It continues a busy transfer window for Tottenham, who will be glad they have finally got a key bit of business over the line.
