Barcelona are ready to cash in on a player they signed only last summer and Tottenham and Aston Villa have both been linked with a move for far less than you might think, per reports.

Amid well publicised financial difficulties, Barcelona wheeled and dealed in the last window. While big fees were sanctioned for the likes of Jules Kounde and Raphinha, no fewer than four high profile stars arrived as free agents.

Hector Bellerin, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen were all signed to fill out the defensive ranks. In midfield, Barcelona fended off stiff competition to land Franck Kessie.

The former AC Milan star, 25, was on the radars of other teams in Italy as well as Tottenham. Via Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed Spurs’ summer interest, and named another heavyweight suitor.

“Inter have always appreciated Franck Kessie since he was at Atalanta before his move to AC Milan, but right now there are no talks to sign him between clubs,” said Romano.

“His agent stated that he will stay in January; Kessie still hopes to do his best for Barcelona.

“Before he left Milan at the end of his contract, there were other opportunities – Tottenham were interested in signing Kessie, but it was never an advanced negotiation.”

But while Kessie’s agent is claiming Kessie will remain in Catalonia, sources in Spain report the contrary.

Kessie transfer would be a bargain

AS state that after just six months at the Camp Nou, Barcelona boss Xavi has seen enough. Xavi reportedly doesn’t view the Ivory Coast international as part of his long-term plans and the club will now entertain a January sale.

The exceedingly good value sum of just €10m (approx. £8.6m) can reportedly secure a deal. Barcelona’s valuation is only so low because Kessie arrived for nothing last summer and they’re eyeing a quick buck.

Kessie has just five starts across all competitions for Barcelona this season. In a side that contains the likes of Gavi and Pedri, it’s understandable he’s not first-choice in midfield.

However, only a short while ago Kessie was instrumental in helping AC Milan be crowned Serie A champions. Kessie has not become a bad player overnight.

The box-to-box midfielder could represent a shrewd acquisition for any side – such as Tottenham – willing to go back in for Kessie.

Fellow Premier League side Aston Villa too have been linked. AS directly name Unai Emery’s side in their report, while Calciomercato detailed a potential swap idea involving Kessie last month.
