Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Sheffield United sensation, Will Lankshear, and their ‘hugely attractive’ proposal that sunk rival competition has been revealed, per a report.
Spurs conducted the vast majority of their business bright and early this summer. The likes of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma were all signed before pre-season training even begun.
Further first-team arrivals followed in the form of Djed Spence, Richarlison and Destiny Udogie. However, Spurs also bolstered their youth ranks upon signing Tyrell Ashcroft and Josh Keeley from Reading and St Patrick’s Athletic respectively.
Now, according to Sky Sports, the tally of summer arrivals will swell to nine and Tottenham’s academy will get even stronger.
They report Spurs have agreed a £2m deal to sign Sheffield United starlet, Will Lankshear.
The attacker was quickly snapped up by the Blades after being released from Arsenal’s academy last year.
Lankshear is termed ‘highly-rated’ by the report and fellow Premier League side Brentford believe he has ‘huge potential’
Predictably, the Bees were also in the mix to sign Lankshear. However, it’s claimed Tottenham ‘blew them out of the water’ with their ‘highly attractive’ proposal.
The £2m fee is split equally into two halves – £1m up front and £1m earmarked for future add-ons. The impending deal represents a coup for Sheffield Utd who will make a quick profit on a player they acquired just last year.
Once his move is confirmed, Lankshear will slot straight into Tottenham’s youth ranks.
Will Lankshear move canny business
While he’s unlikely to make an impression in the first-team any time soon, deals of this type rarely prove to be bad business.
Spurs will hope he develops into a player that can make a tangible impact in north London in the future.
However, if he fails to make the grade, they can always sell him to a lower league club and recoup their outlay down the line.
What’s more, given the price is just £2m if the add-ons are paid, the deal represents a low risk, high reward move.
