Tottenham have rejected Valencia’s proposal to take Bryan Gil back on loan next season, as the north London club reportedly have a clear idea of where they want him to go.

After a disappointing first six months at Tottenham, the winger left to spend the second half of the 2021-22 season back in Spain. He joined Valencia and enjoyed a good spell there, despite failing to score in any of his 17 appearances.

Gil looked lively and impressed the Valencia coaches, as well as their supporters. This led to rumours of a permanent move, or at least another temporary one.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Valencia have come forward with an offer. They would like to take the 21-year-old back on loan for next season.

Contact has been made between the two teams. It comes in the form of Valencia official Anil Murthy, who travelled to London recently and met with Tottenham chiefs.

But he has been told a firm no, leaving the Spanish outfit disappointed in their hopes of bolstering the side for next season.

While Spurs know Gil had a decent spell at the Mestalla Stadium, they don’t want him to go back there.

That’s because Valencia will not compete in Europe in 2022-23 after finishing ninth in La Liga.

Valencia will struggle to re-sign Bryan Gil

Spurs think Gil has the ability to perform for a Europa League or Europa Conference League outfit next season. However, he doesn’t seem to be quite ready to make it into Antonio Conte’s plans.

The Premier League side think Gil’s value will depreciate if he plays for a club without European competition. As such, Gil may end up at Real Betis or Real Sociedad this summer, if he wants to remain in his native Spain.

Despite the possible disappointment, Valencia will monitor the situation and move for Gil if no one else comes in.

Murthy told reporters: “We will talk at the end of August, if there is something to talk about.”

Spurs’ decision to reject Valencia doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. They will want their player to be competing at a high level while out on loan.

This will help him gain experience in more big matches, while also maintaining his transfer value – one of the main factors behind their decision.

It could be argued Gil deserves a chance at Spurs after a decent loan spell. Perhaps Conte will take a look at him in pre-season before telling Spurs officials if the wide man is required.

Meanwhile, Tanguy Ndombele is also facing an uncertain future after one club pulled out of the mix for his signature.
