Jan Vertonghen says Tottenham are "confident" they will overturn a one-goal deficit in tonight's Europa League clash against Gent.

Mauricio Pochettino's side came up short in last week's first leg, with Jeremy Perbet's goal securing a shock victory for the Belgian side.

Spurs need to improve to avoid an early exit from Europe's second tier tournament in front of an expectant Wembley crowd.

But, having bounced back with a comfortable win against Fulham at the weekend, Vertonghen is adamant the mood in the north Londoners' camp is positive in regards to the task at hand.

“Gent are very organised, well-coached and hard to beat," he told Tottenham's official website.

"They showed that in the first leg, but we’re confident especially after how we played at Fulham."

A sell-out crowd is expected at the national stadium, prompting Harry Kane to declare that Spurs fans produce a better atmosphere at their temporary home than White Hart Lane.

Additional levels of support for the hosts could hand Pochettino's men an advantage but Vertonghen has warned Gent will be determined to impress on such a grand stage.

"In terms of Wembley, you probably can’t imagine what this will mean to them.

"To come to Wembley, I think it’s one of the highest things you can achieve as a football player.

"It’s something special for every player and it will be the same for the fans as well,” Vertonghen added.

7,000 away fans are set to be in attendance and the Gent faithful have already braved Storm Doris en route to north London for tonight's game.
