Tottenham have completed the deadline day signing of Jude Soonsup-Bell from Chelsea.

The teenage striker, who had entered the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Spurs.

Soonsup-Bell will bolster an ailing Under-21 team at Spurs and will likely be sent out on loan in the summer.

The 19-year-old joins on a free transfer although Chelsea will retain a sell-on fee for the striker, who joined the Blues from Swindon at the age of nine.

Soonsup-Bell becomes only the fourth player to move directly from Chelsea to Tottenham in the Premier League era.

Chelsea will increasingly need to sell to rivals, with wealth in football hoarded in England and academy-to-academy transfers on the rise after Brexit.

Previously considered one of the most exciting prospects in Europe, Soonsup-Bell made his first-team debut under Thomas Tuchel in the EFL Cup little over a year ago but has since struggled for game time in their U-21 set-up.

Elsewhere at Spurs on the final day of the transfer window, Pedro Porro’s imminent arrival will see Matt Doherty complete a shock loan move to Atletico Madrid.

The Republic of Ireland international is in the Spanish capital ahead of a move that will keep him there until the end of the season.
