Lucas Moura insists Tottenham are "dreaming big" this season after gaining a "new confidence" following their emphatic 6-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Tottenham started the season with a disappointing home defeat to Everton but have responded emphatically, qualifying for the Europa League group stages and the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in quick succession, while enjoying a successful transfer window.

After overcoming an exhausting period of eight matches in 22 days, Tottenham will be boosted by new signings Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius, who will likely be in the squad when the club returns to Premier League action against West Ham on Sunday.

Lucas reveals the United result came as a surprise even to the players but insists with new-found confidence and an improved squad, the players are starting to believe they can achieve great success this season.

“We always believe, but it’s difficult to imagine 6-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford,” told Tottenham's official website.

“It’s never easy there, and it’s always a different taste to win a game like that against a big opponent. It gives us a new motivation, a new confidence and that’s very important for the season.

“It was a tough month for us, but we did very well. It was really important to finish that series of games in the best way, and the last game was amazing.

"If it was a different result, I can imagine what it would be like this week, and until the international guys come back… very difficult.

“Now we need to start the new month in the same way, with the same fighting spirit. I’m very positive. I think we are building a very strong squad and we can dream of big things this season, that’s our objective.”
