Tottenham are ‘extremely confident’ about agreeing a new contract with manager Antonio Conte, says one journalist – despite a recent report claiming he has put renewal talks on hold.

Conte’s current deal in north London expires at the end of the season. While he appears happy at Tottenham, and they are going in the right direction under him, there are growing concerns that Conte could walk away from the club and take part in a new challenge.

As per Italian source Calciomercato, Juventus are eyeing a reunion with their former boss.

He has managed the side twice during his managerial career. His first spell was between May 2011 and June 2012. His second period in the Juventus hot seat came between December 2012 and July 2014.

Conte was highly successful while taking charge of Juve. He guided them to three consecutive Serie A titles, as well as two Supercoppa Italianas.

Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici has recently begun discussions with Conte about a contract renewal. This would probably put Juve off a raid for their former head coach.

An extension would also see the 53-year-old pledge his long-term future to Spurs. When joining the Premier League outfit in November last year, many expected him to just stay for a season or two before going onto a different challenge.

But Conte has got Spurs competitive again and they are taking part in this year’s Champions League too. This could convince him to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Calciomercato’s report claims Conte put the contract talks on hold until after the new year. This will have been a major concern for Spurs fans who wish for him to stay.

Spurs ‘extremely confident’ Antonio Conte will agree new deal

Despite the recent setback, there is still cause for optimism. According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, senior Spurs officials think the Italian will extend his current terms.

During an interview with The Football Terrace on YouTube, Jacobs was asked about Conte’s future. While Juve hold an interest, they look set to be snubbed.

“He’s been backed, he’s flying at Tottenham,” Jacobs stated. “And Juventus are, to be frank, in a mess at the moment. There may be an affection and an aspiration to go back there. It may be a conversation that could be had in the long-term.

“But right now, when you talk to Tottenham sources, they remain extremely confident – not just confident, extremely confident – that whether it’s this month, or whether it’s by early next year that they will get Antonio Conte to sign a new deal.”

This is a huge boost for Spurs supporters and pretty much anyone involved with the club. They are unlikely to get a better manager than Conte, so him staying would help them continue on their upward trajectory.

Spurs’ ultimate goal is to get back winning trophies again. Their drought has gone on for long enough and Conte is the best man to end it. He has won silverware at Chelsea, Juve and Inter Milan during an illustrious career.

Spurs chiefs need to keep in regular contact with Conte and his agent to see when they are willing to re-open contract negotiations. When this happens, they need to tie him down to a long-term deal.

Meanwhile, a former Spurs player thinks the club could sever ties with a summer signing in January, due to the stance of Conte.
