Tottenham will turn their attentions to selling unwanted players after finally announcing Djed Spence as their sixth summer signing.

Spence is set to train with his new team-mates today after agreeing a five-year deal following a protracted £19million move from Middlesbrough.

Spurs will pay £12.5m up front for the 21-year-old, who helped Nottingham Forest to promotion while on loan last season, plus around £6.5m in performance-related add-ons.

With more than six weeks until the transfer window closes, the England Under-21 international is Spurs’s latest summer addition after Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet, with the latter also set to train with the majority of his new team-mates for the first time today.

Forster and Bissouma are due back in London on Wednesday after being released from quarantine in Seoul, where they have been isolating after testing positive during the club’s pre-season trip to South Korea.

While Spurs remain in the market for a creative attacker and may target another defender, the focus is on outgoings, and managing director Fabio Paratici is currently in Italy, where he is set for meetings with AC Milan over Japhet Tanganga and Sampdoria over Bryan Gil. Antonio Conte has questioned Gil’s suitability for the Premier League, while Tanganga can go for the right price after falling down the defensive pecking order.

Matt Doherty or Emerson Royal, who now face fierce competition from Spence and Lucas Moura, could also leave, while Conte has made it clear that Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks are not part of his plans.
